Muscle Strengthening Therapy

At your first appointment, your Physical Therapist will perform a thorough evaluation and develop a personalized rehabilitation treatment program with you that may include Muscle Strengthening Therapy.

What are Strengthening Exercises?

Strengthening exercises are exercises which are designed to increase the strength of specific or groups of muscles. Strengthening exercises overload the muscle until the point of muscle fatigue. This force and overload of a muscle encourages the growth, increasing the strength. Weak muscles can increase the risk of injury to the surrounding joints and soft tissues.

Strengthening exercises will include a variety of exercises designed to target specific groups or individual muscles. These exercises will begin easier and progress as strength is developed. Some of the exercises may involve the following:

Muscle Strengthening Therapy
  • Exercising against gravity
  • Exercising against the resistance of water
  • Exercising against a resistance band
  • Exercising with weight
  • Enhances physical performance
  • Exercising using your own body weight as the load

What Our Clients Say

L Keenan

I’ve been to many physical therapy centers in my life, mostly for back and knee problems and fortunately most have been pretty good. But Low Country PT ranks at the very top of the list. All the therapists and staff members know their stuff and all can answer any questions you have. The atmosphere is fun and positive. There’s a reason they’ve won Best of the Beach for 10 years and running. I hear all the physical therapists are very good. I had Melanie and she was excellent! She addressed all my concerns and answered all my questions. I still do all the exercises and stretches she had me do while I’m at the gym and my improvement has been game changing.

Low Country Therapy is “top notch” in all respects! Clearly it is the most effective PT group anywhere to which I have ever gone. The therapist are attentive to your needs and safety throughout the sessions. Combined with that, it is the cleanest and best maintained of all PT groups I have used anywhere. It is only five stars because that is the max number in this survey!
